Dog Park
Just a few years ago The Hills had no place for dogs to run free. Your Parks and Recreation Commission felt that it was time to do something about that. As the Stanton Foundation states: “There is good evidence that dog parks enhance the welfare of dogs, strengthen the human/dog bond and build community.”
In 2017 a Dog Park Committee was formed. Next came meetings, community feedback, drawing of plans, fund raisers, construction quotes, extension of water lines, and grading. Finally, the fencing and gates went up. Benches, signage and dog pots were installed, mulching was completed, and water bowls were placed. On April 29, 2018, the ribbon cutting for The Hills Dog Park took place. Many dogs and their people were there to enjoy the beautiful day and the camaraderie of their neighbors, both 2 and 4-legged.
Today the dog park is enjoyed by many residents. For those new to the community, it is located at the end of The Hills park near the intersection of The Hills Drive and Serene Hills Drive. Walk on over or park in the parking lot and walk down the trail with your dog. There is a small dog park (“Poppy’s Place”) for dogs under 30 pounds and a large dog park (“Fergus & Friends”) for larger dogs. Both have benches, water stations, and dog waste stations and trash receptacles. There is a monthly Yappy Hour on the 4th Thursday of the month. Park & Recreation Commissioners will be there to welcome you and hand out dog treats. BYOB and BYODog! Or, come over anytime during park hours and meet your fellow dog loving neighbors!
