School is back in session for many of our residents, and I hope it’s off to a great start. For those without students in LTISD, remember that afternoon traffic along Lohmans can be heavier this time of year, so drive safely and watch for children getting on and off school buses.
Council met for our regular session on Tuesday, August 12, and here are some highlights:
We recognized former resident and dedicated volunteer Jim Vick for consecutive years of service to The Hills through both City Council and the POA. It was a privilege to serve alongside him during his term, and this honor was well deserved for all of the improvements and progress accomplished.
No construction dates are yet set for Google Fiber within the tri-cities; right of way agreements are signed, but building standards are still under discussion; those agreements have not been approved.
Applications for the November election are open through August 18 at 5 PM. You can contact Angie Massey, City Administrator, to arrange for the application.
The development across from the entry at Lohmans had been approved for an extension by Lakeway. With as much work as we’ve seen done, we are now expecting the traffic signal no earlier than June 2026.
We’re seeking high school members for the Youth Advisory Commission 2025–2026 term. Students can learn more here and apply by the end of August.
We discussed a direction to pursue Zoning Regulation within Village of The Hills. As our legal counsel advised us, it is one of the best ways to continue to protect our property values and the future of our city. Council member Lee Crawford provided us with a presentation which you can review here. No action was taken but it will be on the agenda again in September.
Council approved the appointments of Joe McKeel and Janette Sikorski to the Welcome Committee, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the team! This committee has been a great addition and have been diligent creating ways to make new residents get connected.
A committee was formed to continue researching feasibility of a Village of The Hills community center. Stay plugged into this site as well as our facebook page for more information; we will host an input session in the near future.
We’re making an improvement to live-streaming City Council meetings on YouTube. You may wonder about how public commenting will work and we will be implementing a new process, with additional options. More details will be shared before our next meeting on September 9.
It’s a busy time of the year getting back into routines but your city is staying right on track! September’s agenda will be busy, with additional discussion and possible action on the budget, tax rate, and zoning regulation. As always, if something needs our attention, please reach out to the office or helpdesk@thehillstx.gov anytime.
