Summer is officially here, and it’s been a joy to see so many neighbors enjoying the city. Thank you to the Parks & Recreation Commission for hosting a successful Ice Cream in the Park event, which brought together residents of all ages. Our new Welcome Committee is also off to a strong start. If you plan to travel this summer, remember that our assigned deputy offers a House Watch program. Learn more: Law Enforcement Services
Here are a few highlights from the June council meeting:
- Our city has a unique opportunity to partner with The Hills Country Club for a short but sparkling fireworks display. Would you please share your input on this online form?
- Tyce Bogdon, LTHS Class of 2025, was awarded the $1,000 Waste Connections x Village of The Hills Scholarship. Congratulations, Tyce!
- Deputy Pedro Lopez was recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation for his dedicated service over the past 15 months. He will soon be transitioning out, and we welcome Deputy Paul Gonzales, who is currently onboarding. Be sure to say hello if you see him out on patrol.
- Cassie Reynolds was selected by her fellow members to serve as the inaugural Chair of the Welcome Committee. Please join me in thanking her for stepping into this leadership role.
- I shared updates from recent meetings with Captain DeLeon of the Travis County Constable’s Office, as well as discussions involving the POA, our Emergency Management Coordinator, and Fire Marshal regarding emergency gate access. Thanks to Angie, City Administrator, for helping coordinate the right people for a solution.
- Council approved updates to the Short Term Rental and Hotel Occupancy Tax Ordinance to add administrative steps for online vendors. While STR’s remain prohibited by the POA, our city ordinance ensures health, safety, and welfare remain top priorities should future changes occur.
- Council authorized the renewal agreement with CleanScapes to continue providing landscaping services for our parks and greenbelts.
- A preview of the redesigned city website, TheHillsTX.gov, was shared ahead of the soft launch, which is expected around June 25.
- The budget workshop has been scheduled to follow the next council meeting, at 1:00 PM.
I hope to see many of you at Lakeway’s 4th of July Parade—it’s always a fantastic community-wide tradition that starts at 8:30AM. My family and I will be sure to stock up on candy for the route!
Wishing you a safe and sunny summer,
Mayor Kevin Proud
